Mutational doings

Posted in Art, Photography & Images with tags , , , , , , on January 29, 2010 by jack lomax

Oh hello there, how’s it going? I went to see one of the Mutation Stations the other day and found Matt mid-mute with a 14 cylinder helicopter engine. It’s one artistic piece of engineering that’s about to be reborn under the supervision of metal gynacologist Mr. Joseph Rush (Phd, Mtt-cup) – who I understand is also about to give birth to a robo Tiger,  unnatural history should be taught in schools! Watch this space for more…

Cooo… what will he come up with next? We’re about to find out – here’s the trailer for the new episode in Banksy’s ‘Mad Cap Capers’ series. Looks militant. I just hope it doesn’t suck. We shall see.

Elephants Invade London!

Posted in Art with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 19, 2010 by jack lomax

Not real ones. These are a herd of 200 fibreglass elephants descending on the parks, streets and squares of London this Spring. Our friends Carrie Reichardt aka The Baroness and Mr Spunky are 2 of 200 specially chosen artists (including Marc Quinn, Jack Vettriano and Sacha Jafri as designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger and Lulu Guinness) who will be bringing their own style to these elephantastic canvesses. Here’s Carrie’s Tiki truck picking up the naked individual in question…

Baroness Carrie and Senior el Spunkerino will be collaborating with the artist Nick Reynolds (son of Great Train robber Bruce Reynolds and harmonica player with the band Alabama 3) on one of the elephants. The unique sculptures will then be auctioned in the summer amdist what’s sure to be a meeeja clamour as Stephen Fry, Joanna Lumley and Michael Palin are all in on it. The funds raised go to Elephant conservation projects across Asia.

Carrie says “I really believe that ours will be a real show stopper piece, mutated and mosaiced to reveal the realities of what is happening to the Indian elephant.” There’s more at Carrie’s ‘site  www.carriereichardt.co.uk and you can contact Elephant Family, the official charity and organisers of the campaign at www.elephantfamily.org

NEW FEATURE – direct from South America!

Posted in one foot in the grove, South America, Video with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 16, 2010 by jack lomax

The Street Art scene in South America is astounding. Everyone is talking about Brazillian Street Art with good reason – but what about the thriving Chilean scene and the developing styles of Argentina and Paraguay? At One Foot in the Grove we were very happy to host this work by Wolf and PXL from Chile…

…and we’ve got links to South America so watch this space for reports on the distinct and amazing styles happening over there. For now, check this video from Denotes hip hop & graffiti crew, of Asunción, Paraguay. Joma & Kast of Denotes are MCs and graffiti writers. In the background, there are typographic throw ups by them, and by Above, who came through Asunción.  Above and Denotes have been to Brazil, and their letters incorporate the Brazilian pixaçao lettering style.

Remi Rough vs. Jaybo

Here at Mutate Britain’s throbbing Head Quarters we like it when you send us stuff. Remi Rough sent this video, which admittedly has been out for a few weeks now but it’s an art battle that lets you compare the processes and raw creativity of two different artists, which I like.

If you want to send us something then mutatebritain@gmail.com is the address – big ups to you all individually but also as a collective, well done, carry on… oh wait, I’m going to put up this video of Pure Evil that I tripped over while rambling around – if  only ’cause it made me laugh, cue the music…

Videos and the bubbling Dutchie

Posted in one foot in the grove, Video with tags , , , , on January 12, 2010 by jack lomax

Yo, here’s Chu’s video from One Foot in the Grove, ultimate big ups to him for making it – we love videos! So, if you’ve made one, whack the mother up on the Tube of You and ping the details over here. Lots of excting things bubbling away in the Dutchie, we’ll keep on posting Mutate British business and expect events to unfold in the next few months – so fingers off the dial!

Lrry Brings the Fire!

Posted in one foot in the grove, Video with tags , , , , on January 9, 2010 by jack lomax

Another massive thanks that’s been a long time coming must go to Lyle Rowell, the mastermind behind Lrry the fire burning bull that breaths flame and made an incredible spectacle at both the Behind the Shutters and One Foot in the Grove shows. Lrry and Lyle even make a brief cameo in our Mutate Chicken stop frame film. To get more details and step into the twisted genius world of Lyle’s creations have a look at www.doghead.tv. Here’s a video of the unique madness from our first show…

Filthy Luker makes the world go around…

Posted in Art, one foot in the grove with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 8, 2010 by jack lomax

Filthy Luker is one in a million becuse he makes inflateable street art. He’s installed his work at both Mutate Britian shows and both times he’s made the event better than it would have been without him – we love his unique style and silly but pertinent slant. Here’s a pic of his giant tentacles sprawling from the roof of Cordy House at our first ‘Behind the Shutters’ show…

…Luker has kept on evolving his style to address different aspects of city living, have a look and make your own mind up about what’s going on beyond the obvious, here’s Tentaclaus who you might have seen at One Foot in the Grove…

…also, he says that, “In an effort not to be pigeon holed as an over inflated artist, I went into pigeons.” These brilliant feathered sculptures are a series and are proper head turners, if you’re paying attention that is…

By the power of Zeus!

Posted in Art with tags , , , , on January 6, 2010 by jack lomax

Swap your pepper spray for de-icer! We’re in the middle of the biggest ‘cold  snap’ since records began apparently. Embrace the chaos armed with a spade I say. In other news, Zeus.  He was a writer meeting Henry Chalfant when I was 4,  here’s his profile. Massive respect to the man who made the Mutate 3D Graffiti letters that featured in this video and were a wicked lasting feature of One Foot in the Grove. Here’s another look incase you missed it last time…

Can’t forget Matt Webb on this one either – he built the back board and was quiet litterally ‘living the dream’ at what I’m now calling ‘Mutate Britain ’09’ aka ‘One Foot in the Grove’ aka ‘Spaghetti West 10’ – Big up you and your Dragon Matt – apparently we’re poised for something big at Chinese New Year…

It’s a winter wonderland here in London and to celebrate the snow thought we’d get this gem from the archive. This ice cold homage to the oldschool wonder of Cheech Wizard was created by BUSK, who we are proud to have worked with on both MuTATE show including on the killer wall with Deadleg and Bestever below, whcih is avaialble to buy as a print here.
