Documenting Documentary

So there are quite a few different bits of documentary video floating around about Street Art. Most of them are painfully standard I think. Man does painting, man sits still and talks about painting. If you click the ‘Video Gallery’ tab to the right and scroll to the bottom you’ll see some of our video’s that are a bit doccy (Dr. D vs Brown and Cameron + One Day at Cordy House). We try to do something at least a bit different…

Here is one that was posted on Wooster Collective that does follow the ‘see picture, talk about picture’ format but it’s well constructed, what do you reckon to it?

Also, there’s a new one coming out called ‘New Brow, The Rise of Underground Art’. It’s showing at Westbourne Studios and we’re going to see it this week. Critical judgement will be passed! So check back next week if you could give a flying monkey’s…

Look deep into Chu’s box…

So, Mutate’s Captain of British Industry, Gwarm built a box for chew with some other handy heroes. You can see a timeplapse of it’s erection here. Now, there have been a few eye tricky perspective painings (or Trompe D’Oeil if you feel like being a length) doing the rounds on the tinterweb of late – so Chu stepped up and smashed the face off these pretenders with this mind warping piece (it’s on the inside of the box). If you live in Birmingham, or perhaps are within sensible commuting distance, we recomend an inspection. Joe Rush has also made a new piece as part of this series – more to come on that very soon…

Giles Walker: Master Sculptor and Genius!

Posted in Art, News with tags , , , , , , , , on February 5, 2010 by jack lomax

Hello World! Things rolling along very nicely here, we’ve got a new website on the way which will be a vast improvement on this one. Loads of Mutoid history, super fit Street Art, videos, the blog – all that good stuff now made much more betterer.

Also I thought I’d take a minute to remind you of the words of that ancient and rotund film director Ken Russel. At the end of last year he wrote an article in The Times in which he described our friend and mutational collaborator Giles Walker as ‘a master sculptor and genius’. What an astute, well turned out, Oscar winning legend Ken truely is… and it appears he rather enjoyed the sweet nothings this masterful sculpture had to wisper in his ear, “So you were in a punk band. And now you’re just a cunt.”

But of course you have already gazed at Giles’ genius when you came to our Behind the Shutters and One Foot in the Grove shows haven’t you? You are therefore a minimum of one up on good old Ken, although his Oscar for Women in Love is a potent trump (card). Here’s a new piece by genius Giles, the kids have motion sensors for knee caps and tremble when you approach. I love it. But I’m not here to chatter spittle into your hair in the style of a Charles Saatchi P.A. – so you can draw your own conculsions…
